I moved to Boston from New York after my husband Michael and I were married and I realized it would be tricky to have a child together while splitting our time between too many places. I left my 12+ year chapter at Goldman Sachs and truly began the process of putting family first in everything… about a year later we brought Josi into the world and I could not be more grateful.
While working at Goldman, I had the chance to do sooo much interesting work, including raising capital to invest in underserved communities around the US. Moving to Boston and transitioning out of GS gave me some precious time to reflect on what I cared most about, and realize that a lot of what we were investing in were things known as the “social determinants of health.” I quickly understood there was a whole world of public health to explore…
Another key realization was that not only was there “life after Goldman,” but there was a way to build a career doing more than one thing at a time. I found myself building a ‘portfolio’ of work with wide ranging responsibilities, goals, and models. I was accepted to the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health and was able to study the social determinants of health, epidemiology and biostatistics, nutrition science and more.
In the last few months of our time in Boston, I had the privilege of being able to train for and run the 127th marathon. During this time, I listened to several books that impacted and interested me deeply. To say nothing of how much they inspired me! This was an incredibly gratifying and eye-opening experience and I’m so grateful I had the chance to do it.
